Damage Control

  • How large is the hole or breakage?
  • Look for stress cracks that may extend past the visual damage.

Surface Prep

  • Use sandpaper provided  to rough up the area around the damage.
  • Wipe down with Acetone (not included in kit).

Material Prep

  • Cut your Mat to extend 3-4" beyond the damage.
  • The more overlap the greater the bond between new and old material.
  • Cut larger diameter pieces to build to required strength.
  • 1L Kits include 2yds Mat (9.5sqft)
  • 4L Kits include 6 yds Mat (19sqft)

Resin Prep

  • Measure the required resin based on the the quantity of pre-cut mat.
  • Use the ratio of resin to mat in the kit as a guide
  • ie. 1yd of mat would require 1/2 the resin(500ml) from the 1L kit.

Resin+Hardener Mix

  • Add 1.5-2% Hardener to Resin (15-20ml per 1000ml)
  • Measure with the 30ml cup provided
  • Mix thoroughly with stick provided
  • Working time may vary based on hardener volume and temperature
  • Mixing multiple smaller batches allows more time than a single large batch

Apply Material

  • Brush a coat of the catalyzed resin over the damaged area.
  • Make sure you extend the resin 3-4" beyond the repair.
  • Lay the pre-cut mat over the repair area.
  • Brush another coat of the catalyzed resin over the mat.
  • Repeat with additional, larger pieces to build required strength.
  • Continue to brush coats of resin on subsequent layers of mat.
  • When layers are wet out, roll out the air bubbles with the fiberglass roller.
  • Once cured, repeat these steps if the reverse side if applicable.

Cleanup

  • Clean your fiberglass roller with Acetone (not Included in kit)
  • Acetone will not be effective after the resin cures.

Gelcoat (Not Included in Kit)

  • Fiberglass requires gelcoat paint to protect it from UV and to seal the new repair.
  • Gelcoat is available in a variety of colors in  1L, 4L and 20L at OP Fiberglass.
